As 2017 continues, the demand for locum tenens staffing has maintained its upward trend.
The need for locums is largely driven by the shortage of full-time physicians and advanced practitioners, and the healthcare industry has experienced an influx of new in-house recruiters adjusting to the mix of permanent and contract physicians.
Recently, 94% of healthcare facility managers reported using locum physicians during the last 12 months. This is up from 91% in 2014 and 74% in 2012.
Locum tenens providers are still needed most in the following specialties:
- Family Practice
- Internal Medicine
- General Surgery
- Nurse Practitioner
- Physician Assistant
