Because nearly everyone has access to the internet, it’s inevitable that the most patients will turn to Dr. Google at some point to research their symptoms. In fact, it is estimated that one in three Americans use the internet to research a medical condition, whether for themselves or a friend or family member.

Rather than achieve a correct diagnosis, by Googling symptoms, patients are more likely to create unnecessary panic, a state of medical anxiety referred to as “cyberchondria,” a growing concern among many healthcare providers.
