March 12th - March 18th marks Patient Safety Awareness Week. Did you know that one in ten patients develop a health care acquired condition during hospitalization and that 44,000 to 98,000 patient deaths a year are caused by medical error?
This week serves as a dedicated time and platform to grow awareness about patient safety. Launching a yearlong effort to highlight issues and reduce harm to patients, this week provides the opportunity for discussion and engagement.
As we begin this week, we want to take a look at the top ten patient safety issues for 2017. Among them are health equity, growth of antibiotic resistant, and sterilization issues. To read the full list, visit Becker's Hospital Review.
