As the holiday season ensues, many use this time to take off work and spend time with loved ones. However, physicians across the country find that accidents and illnesses do not stop for the holidays and there are no days off in medicine. Between added holiday stress from last-minute gift shopping and travel, to overindulging in rich, fatty foods and alcohol, according to one study, heart attacks and other emergencies actually spike during this time of year.
During the holidays, bancing professional obligations and family time can be a struggle for many physicians. Christmas and New Year's may seem just like another day at the office. as thousands of healthcare providers staff or provide on-call coverage at hospitals across the country.
