In recent years, physician studies have shown increasing levels of stress and burnout. An additional concern among medical students, residents, and physicians is higher than normals rates of depression and suicide.
To address this problem, several local and national health care education and professional organizations have launched multiple initiatives. One of the main leaders in this has been the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
By holding different groups to address the issues and urging other institutions to do the same, UNMC has inspired others, like the Metro Omaha Medical Society, to take steps in addressing burnout and depression in their own medical communities.
