What Physicians Can Learn From a College Football Coach

After several wins, one would expect Ohio State football coach Urban Meyers to be on cloud nine, however, this was not the case.

He was exhausted, couldn't sleep, and was working constantly. In a word, he was experiencing burnout.

With his health taking the brunt of it all, he decided to sign a contract with his family promising things like:

My family will always come first.

I will take care of myself and maintain good health.

I will eat three meals a day.

These are things that may seem simple but are often taken for granted. At times, as a physician you give so much of yourself to others, it's easy to get overwhelmed and forget to take care of yourself and your loved ones too.

This holiday season, take a lesson from Coach Meyer and consider listing out promises to yourself and your family. Read more of his list here.
